How to Change a Diesel Fuel Filter

Why Change the Filter?

Diesel fuel often contains contaminants. The fuel filter protects injectors and pumps from dirt and water. Neglecting this leads to costly repairs.

Tools Needed

  • New fuel filter

  • Filter wrench

  • Diesel-rated gloves

  • Clean container for fuel

Step-by-Step

  1. Relieve fuel system pressure

  2. Remove old filter with wrench

  3. Fill new filter with clean diesel (prime it)

  4. Install and tighten new filter

  5. Bleed air from the fuel system

  6. Start engine and check for leaks
